The Dynamics feat. Dave Burnett (Notorious B.I.G./ Jennifer Lopez) on bass is also welcomed this year to the WimBash family.
Synonymous with Doug Wimbish, Doug’s personal venture, WimBash, continues to be both a vision and a mission. Starting with a Tack>>Head reunion in 2004 in his hometown of Hartford, CT as a musical get-together for family and friends and as a way to give back to the community, Doug’s WimBash has become a highly anticipated event, rapidly expanding to cities across the US. and beyond.
The annual WimBash, as it was named in 2005, features Doug playing with a number of world-class collaborators, as well as select local bands, providing the opportunity to see musicians, who more often play large venues around the world, in a much more intimate setting. WimBash is unique in that it brings together an eclectic group of music genres under one roof, utilizing the local talent alongside well-known artists while working together with a local foundation or organization in giving back directly to the community. The event has established its name by leveraging the passion and talents of professional musicians by connecting them with groundbreaking programs in music, culture and quality education.
WimBash>>Hartford 2012 aims to promote community awareness and involvement in supporting Sully’s Pub and Lena’s First & Last Pizzeria Restaurant, which hosted the inaugural WimBash. Lena’s, in the community for 30 years and Sully’s for the last 16 years, face an uncertain future in light of financial difficulties and real estate tax difficulties. Continuing along with Doug’s support of education and belief in transcending music knowledge from the experienced to the youth, the WimBash>>Hartford 2012 musicians will offer clinics and workshops to the School of Rock participants and local children during the day. Working together with the musicians, production, marketing and media WimBash team, the School of Rock youth will enhance their skills in the many aspects of music and event production as they participate in the production of WimBash>>Hartford 2012.
In its ninth year, WimBash is growing in popularity and attracting more and more talented musicians to the NovaSound family. Doug and his production company, NovaSound Studio, have brought the WimBash Music Festival Series on the road while keeping the vision of WimBash as a community and family based, organic, relaxed and educational event. WimBash has redefined how we look at pro-active involvement in making change. In early 2012, Doug partnered up with The Miami Design Preservation League, The School of Rock and The DREAM Project to bring WimBash to the cities of Miami, Philadelphia and Cabarete, Dominican Republic. Five-time Grammy Award winning artist and Doug’s personal friend, Ms. Lauryn Hill appeared at WimBash>>Hartford 2011 and as a special guest of Dreamin’ Live and WimBash>>Cabarete 2012, gave a surprise performance to the fans on Cabarete Beach in support of The DREAM Project. WimBash, as part of the 2012 Backbeat Jazzfest Series, returned in May to New Orleans during the famed New Orleans Jazz Fest with special guests Living Colour’s Corey Glover and NOLA’s own Khris Royal.
